Chapter 13

17: And I said unto him: I know that he (God) loveth his children; nevertheless, I do not know the meaning of all things.

Thank you Nephi for letting us all know that it's OK not to know EVERYTHING! It's Ok to ask questions and admit that we're human. (Does anyone else feel like we forget that in the church sometimes?:)

But of course the most important lesson to be learned from this is that Nephi is ASKING. He's not content to wait in ignorance.

V1: For it came to pass after I DESIRED to know the things that my father had seen, and BELIEVING that the Lord was able to make them known unto me, as I sat PONDERING in mine heart I was caught away in the Spirit of the Lord...

There are the key elements to having our prayers answered, I believe.

I'm reading a wonderful LDS book right now called "To Him that Believeth"  that is all about how our faith is so incredibly powerful if we will just use it. I firmly believe this vision of Nephi's was driven by his mighty faith. There was not a doubt in his mind that his questions would be answered, and lo and behold they were. i am truly being schooled in faith right now!

Love to all,

Almost Caught Up! :D

I am almost there ladies! I have to say I LOVED chapter 7! I love learning how Nephi had so much FAITH, that anything he asked of the Lord would be done for him. I hope to one day have the faith and courage that Nephi did. What a great example he is to me.

Thanks for the inspiration Ladies! Love you all!

HELLO!!!! OPEN YOUR EYES CARISSA!

Anyone else feeling like they are being tested big time right now?
The fact that Satan is trying to push me to believe: I don't have the time, I don't have the patience, I'm not being a good enough mommy or wife, not being a great example... only Pushes me to try to be the best I can be and keep moving forward.
My inspirational scripture for the last few days I just read tonight in Chapter 18. They are on the boat and Nephi has been bound for FOUR days the the storms are bad and they finally came in and loosed his wrists and his ankles which he says were very swollen and sore and despite the pain in vs. 16 Nephi says, "Nevertheless, I did look unto my God, and I did praise him all the day long; and I did not murmur against the Lord because of mine afflictions."
He is our God and he loves us and knows what we are going through and he isn't going to give up on us! It gives me great comfort to know that we are not alone and that we have the scriptures and prayer for answers and comfort.
Keep Pushing Forward!
Love Always,
Carissa

Seeing an Angel. . . Chapters 13-16 Thoughts

Ch 13:40 "And the angel spake unto me saying: These last records, which thou hast seen among the Gentiles, shall establish the truth of the first, which are of the twelve apostles of the Lamb, and shall make known the pain and precious things which have been taken away from them; and shall make known to all kindred's, tongues, and people, that the Lamb of God is the Son of the Eternal Father, and the Savior of the world; and that all men must come unto him, or they cannot be saved."

Amazing that the "last records" the books of scripture-Book of Morman, D & C, Pearl of Great Price are mentioned before their existence was ever known. The Lords work is perfect and has such a divine-direction that past and present revelation is real and forever will be. I love this such a comforting knowledge to know that the Lord truly KNOWS all that will happen in our lives and the life of the world that we live in. With this perspective-WHY do we ever doubt or fall away from Him?

Ch 14:13-14. . . . This talked about how the great mother of abominations (the devil) would gather its multitudes upon the earth to battle against the Lords followers. Then in verse 14 it says this, "And it came that I Nephi, beheld the power of the Lamb of God, that it descended upon the saints of the church of the Lamb, and upon the covenant people of the Lord, who were scattered upon all the face of the earth; and they were armed with righteousness and with the power of God is great glory."

Yet another comforting thought to ponder as we go through our lives and face the challenges that we all do. The LORD WILL ARM US! If we stay righteousness in his sight he will provide us with such great power to fight the daily battles we face. Geeee, sure sounds like the "Scripture Power" song from Primary! Such truth that song teaches!!

Chapter 15-16
Nephi's NEVER-ENDING FAITH and GRATITUDE. We see it again and again, the faithfulness of Nephi keeps his family in the path of righteousness. Yes I do admit how hard to bear such afflictions in a wilderness. I do enjoy camping, but after a few days I am DONE! It would be hard to continually do it for months at a time Without any complaining! The flesh is weak!

I love his example of determination and understanding of the Lord's will. He is one of my favorite HEROES!! What a great example for our kids to follow and desire to be like. I also visualize our missionaries out in the field remembering his strength and desire to follow the Lord completely.

I love the strength this "project" of ours has provided for me and the centering of Christ in my life. I love the heroes we read about and having the opportunity to ponder their truly amazing lives. :) (It is amazing to think that these stories are REAL!)

Catch Up...

So today I had a little catch up reading to do, so I decided to ask Taylee and Paige if they wanted to read the scriptures with me while Kinsley was down for a nap. Not only did Paige sit and listen for a few minutes (which is good for her considering the book didn't have pictures...I really want to get the family version with pictures and explainations) but Taylee sat by me for all five chapters! Yeah she was sucking her thumb, no I didn't try to stop her, because...not only was she listening, but she would blurt out who or what it was talking about! I don't know about the rest of you, but at 5 years old I don't remember being able to understand a word of what was going on. Paige did linger in the room through the reading as well.

On a more spiritual note....I am sure Taylee won't mind me sharing this as long as none of you mention it to her. During the second chapter (Nephi Ch. 11) of the reading I KNOW that Taylee felt the spirit because she started to cry. She told me that she missed her uncle Westley(Brandon's brother who passed away when I was barely pregnant with Paige) She talks about him often and always asks when Jesus is going to come again so that she can see Westley again because she misses him. I told her that her, "Uncle Westley loves you very much and he watches you everyday. He loves to see you happy and laughing and playing because that is what he loved to do with you. Heavenly Father just needed Uncle Westley to help teach all the people in heaven that they can be together forever with their families like we will be." So Taylee decided to be happy, for now. I asked, "Does your chest feel really warm?" She said, "Yes" I told her, "What that feeling is is the Holy Ghost telling you that the things that you are hearing are true!" She smiled and nodded her head. I don't know why I shared that whole story with you girls, probably because I thought it was awesome! How I want to be meek as a little child. I might need a few more Forevers before I get there.

A verse that stood out to me today was 13:37 "And blessed are they who shall seek to bring forth my Zion at that day, for they shall have the gift and the power of the Holy Ghost; and if they endure unto the end they shall be lifted up at the last day, and shall be saved in the everlasting kingdom of the Lamb; and whoso shall publish peace, yea, tidings of great joy, how beautiful upon the mountains shall they be." I need to seek to bring forth his Zion and not just be enduring to the end. Some days I just find myself enduring to the next moment...while seeking to bring forth Zion will be my new goal.

Love Always,
Carissa
